Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha Lipoic Acid

The current study demonstrated that [alpha lipoic acid] enhances hepatic [metabolic hormone] sensitivity and prevents the development of NAFLD; furthermore, ALA ameliorates glucose metabolism by modulating the [metabolic-hormone-signaling] pathway. Overall, ALA facilitates the liver's capacity for glucose production and glucose utilization and might be effective in decreasing whole-body glucose catabolism.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon

In tests of [metabolic hormone] activity [...], cinnamon extracts produced the greatest enhancement of glucose utilization of all the forty-nine herb, spice, and medicinal plant extracts tested. Subsequently, [...] cinnamon [was] found to increase [metabolic hormone] activity by approximately twenty-fold in the same assay.

Berberine

Berberine

Berberine acted by lowering fasting blood glucose and postprandial blood glucose from 1 week to the end of the trial. [...] Fasting plasma [metabolic hormone] and homeostasis model assessment of [metabolic hormone] resistance index were reduced by 28.1% and 44.7% (P<.001), respectively.

Bitter Melon

Bitter Melon

[Bitter melon] greatly enhanced [metabolic hormone] sensitivity, reversed liver steatosis, reduced body-fat mass. [...] This study suggested that the favorable effects of BME on increasing [metabolic hormone] sensitivity and attenuating hepatic steatosis may be attributed to the mediation of SIRT1 and AMPK-ACC signaling.

Chromium

Chromium

Significant differences in the fasting blood level of glucose compared to the baseline (190 mg/dL vs 150 mg/dL, p < 0.001) were found at the end of the study. [...] We conclude that [...] dietary supplementation with chromium is beneficial in moderating glucose intolerance.
